I started photographing people at a lakeside park in Chicago (the Point), and at the Venice and Santa Monica beaches, both public bathing places where people come to remove themselves from everyday time. The presence of water creates an island in time.

Still, everyday time and its catastrophes hover beneath the surface; in the presence of a discordant figure or a juxtaposition of figures, or in the quality of darkness in light and vice versa.
